What causes bad smell from the vagina .

There are many reasons why bad smell may develop in your vagina .Each woman / lady has their own unique vagina smell that's normal and as a result of the various microbial biome .
When the populations of various common bacteria that reside in the vagina are interrupted  ,it results in a complete instability among the various microorganisms existing in the vagina .
This can result in some bacterial overgrowth or the introduction of pathogenic Bacteria .This can result to a condition known as Bacterial Vaginosis which is characterized by bad smell and yellow to white discharge as shown below .

The major common bacteria that cause bacterial vaginosis and bad smell is G.vaginalis .

Other bacterial species do cause  this as well eg streptococcus . 

   

Other causes of bad vagina smell 

Other causes of bad vagina smell include the following ,

•  Douching -Douching involve introduction of fluids into the vagina canal .This can lead to introduction of new smells into the vagina .It can also interfere with vaginal flora thus leading to vaginal infections that can result in bad vaginal smells .Some fluids can also irritate the vaginal canal leading to inflammation that can result in bad vaginal smell .I would not recommend douching since it can lead to severe consequences .
• Eating raw garlic and onions -Eating raw garlic and onions frequently can lead into developments of unpleasant smell .Alternatively eating citrus fruits eg oranges can result into sweet smells in your vagina .
• Having sex with multiple partners-This is based on the fact that   this behavior can result in introducts of pathogenic microorganisms into your vaginal canal thus leading into infections that can cause bad vagina smell .In addition to that it can distabilize the various microorganisms already residing in your vagina .  

 

   Types of bad vagina smell.

Foul vagina smell

This is a smell that's definitely bad even to you .It may smell like some rotten flesh or a wound that's taking long to heal .It mostly will be accompanied by a low grade fever that may continue or subside after sometime. This may be accompanied with lower abdominal pain and sometimes pain during sexual intercourse .This may later progress into Pelvic inflammatory disease .The major culprits for this types of smell are Chlamydia and gonorrhea .In some cases it may be an indication of bacterial vaginosis .The discharge associated with this smell is similar to the ones below .

This types of smell and infections can be easily cleared with some antibiotics especially doxycycline and amoxicillin.

As soon as you notice this types of smell visit your gynecologist soon.

Fishy vagina smell

A fishy vagina smell is an indication of a serious vagina infection .If the smell increases drastically especially after sex with white and yellowish discharge as shown below you are most likely suffering from bacterial vaginosis .
Trichomoniasis is also associated with creation of a fishy vagina smell.
If you notice such a smell its best to visit your gynecologist soon as possible .
Fishy vagina smell can be easily cleared out with some narrow spectrum antibiotics.

Yeasty vagina smell 


This is usually a bread like smell that is usually associated with a yeast Infection .Your vagina may have a cheese like smell .
Your vagina usually has some certain species of yeast as normal flora .However frequent use of antibiotics or spermicides may lead you to developing a yeast infection .This yeasty smell is usually accompanied with itching of vagina and vulva . The vaginal discharge may sometimes not have any smell .The discharge is similar to this
This yeast smell and yeast infection can be treated with simple antifungals eg Clotrimazole .As well its Better to improve on hygiene .
